In that Jesus wants us to refrain our tongue and actions from evil, would He be pleased that we watch evil or Satanic shows on TV, our devices and at the movies?

In that Jesus wants us to refrain our tongue and actions from evil, would He be pleased that we watch evil or Satanic shows on TV, our devices and at the movies?

For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile: Let him eschew [turn away from] evil, and do good; let him seek peace, and ensue [pursue] it. For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and His ears are open unto their prayers: but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil. 1 Peter 3: 10-12

Sure, it's easy enough to separate them out by saying that watching this evil is just entertainment and my actions are totally separate, but is that true? They have many, many  sites that include research on this topic. Here are a few excerpts:

As a result of 15 years of “consistently disturbing” findings about the violent content of children's programs, the Surgeon General's Scientific Advisory Committee on Television and Social Behavior was formed in 1969 to assess the impact of violence on the attitudes, values and behavior of viewers. The resulting report and a follow-up report in 1982 by the National Institute of Mental Health identified these major effects of seeing violence on television:
  • Children may become less sensitive to the pain and suffering of others.
  • Children may be more fearful of the world around them.
  • Children may be more likely to behave in aggressive or harmful ways toward others.
Research by psychologists L. Rowell Huesmann, Leonard Eron and others starting in the 1980s found that children who watched many hours of violence on television when they were in elementary school tended to show higher levels of aggressive behavior when they became teenagers. By observing these participants into adulthood, Huesmann and Eron found that the ones who'd watched a lot of TV violence when they were 8 years old were more likely to be arrested and prosecuted for criminal acts as adults.  http://www.apa.org/action/resources/research-in-action/protect.aspx

Abstract

A meta-analysis is performed on studies pertaining to the effect of television violence on aggressive behavior. Partitioning by research design, viewer attributes, treatment and exposure variables, and type of antisocial behavior, allows one to interpret computed effect sizes for each of the variables in the partitions. We find a positive and significant correlation between television violence and aggressive behavior, albeit to varying degrees depending on the particular research question.   http://journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/009365094021004004

Abstract (Craig A. Anderson-Iowa State University and Brad J. Bushman-Ohio State Unversity)
Evidence is steadily accumulating that prolonged exposure to violent TV programming during childhood is associated with subsequent aggression. In their Perspective, [Anderson and Bushman][1] discuss new work ([ Johnson et al .][2]) that clearly demonstrates this association in adolescents and young adults, thus broadening the range of individuals affected by media violence. Studies in psychology have shown that watching intense emotions on television leaves a long-lasting impression on one's mind. Horror scenes or other frightful scenes on television have a negative impact on the minds of people watching. Verbal, physical, or any other form of abuse shown on TV has a psychological effect on the viewers. https://entertainism.com/negative-effects-of-television

✦ The American Academy of Pediatrics has said that a child watching TV (non-educational content) for 3-4 hours daily will have seen about 8,000 murders on screen by the time he completes grade school. https://entertainism.com/negative-effects-of-television
