It's been a hard time for all of us. How does Jesus want us to respond to someone who asks for help?

I know, we all have been affected in one way or another by COVID-19, but how does Jesus want us to respond when someone asks for help? Or when they ask for more food for the food banks, etc?
In Matthew 6:42 Jesus said: "Give to him who asks you, and from him who wants to borrow from you do not turn away."

That doesn't mean that if someone asked you for your house or for a million dollars, you are supposed to oblige. It does mean that we trust the instincts that Jesus gives us on what and how much is appropriate to give. We are to have open hearts for the needy, not just during the COVID-19 Pandemic, but at all times.
