Again, a new commandment I write unto you, which thing is true in Him and in you: because the darkness is past, and the true light now shineth. He that saith he is in the light, and hateth his brother, is in darkness even until now. He that loveth his brother abideth in the light, and there is none occasion of stumbling in him. But he that hateth his brother is in darkness, and walketh in darkness, and knoweth not whither he goeth, because that darkness hath blinded his eyes. I write unto you, little children, because your sins are forgiven you for His name's sake. 1 John 2:8-11
When this was written in the Bible all those years ago, they weren't just talking about your siblings, although it also does pertain to them. Which of us hasn't had some type of discord over the years with our siblings?
Well, Christ doesn't want this discord in our families, but He also doesn't want discord in His larger church family. Are we hateful or do we just ignore those we don't approve of in our church family?
Well, Christ doesn't want discord among different people, regardless of their ethnicity, faith, etc. Do we have people of different ethnicity, faith, etc. and we are either hateful to them or just ignore those we don't approve of in the world? Who knows whether by our example of inclusion, we might be the example that leads them to faith in Christ. God doesn't want us to walk in the darkness any longer and will forgive us if we ask Him.
What Do Our Actions Say When Jesus Calls Us? Sometimes, the lack of action conveys more than we imagine, but there's still time to make changes! Yeah, in the way of thy judgments, O Lord, have we waited for Thee; the Desire of our soul is to Thy name, and to the remembrance of Thee. Isaiah 26:8
