But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresises, even denying the Lord that brought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by the reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of. And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not. 2 Peter 2:1-3
Although I don't totally know what all of this means, I do realize that we are being told not to follow the ways of those who would make merchandise of us and might lead us astray. For some strange reason, technology was what popped in my mind.
I'm not talking about the actual technology itself, but the ability to use the technology. You know, when you want to use an App or use social media, they make you sign a waiver, so that they can use your information, most often to sell it, but they say it's to improve their performance for you. Isn't that nice of them to care so much about your needs? If you don't agree to sign this agreement, you can't use their technology services. [Of note: Google and Blogger have always allowed me to opt out of information sharing without being penalized.]
The thing of concern is that the more we get pulled into signing our lives away with technology agreements that allow them to sell our information, aren't we made merchandise and the very technology is being adapted to allow unsuspecting consumers to be eavesdropped upon? If You Substitute Technology for False Prophets in this passage, Are We Selling Out Our Private Lives? It's a lot to be prayerful about!
What Do Our Actions Say When Jesus Calls Us? Sometimes, the lack of action conveys more than we imagine, but there's still time to make changes! Yeah, in the way of thy judgments, O Lord, have we waited for Thee; the Desire of our soul is to Thy name, and to the remembrance of Thee. Isaiah 26:8
