Do Your Actions Say That Approval from a Quasi-Spiritual Group is More Important Than Jesus Is?

But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. And many shall follow their pernicious ways: by reason of whom the [Way of Truth] shall be evil spoken of. 2 Peter 1-2

Jesus paid a high price for us, knowing that He would be mocked, spat upon, betrayed and crucified, but He still went through all of that for us. He still went through it knowing that we might fall prey to the spiritual fads of society that could lead us astray. Fortunately, Jesus' death on the cross and resurrection from the dead has provided salvation for all who truly believe He's the Son of God, our Savior.

Are we so needy for the approval of others that we will leave our faith that we know is true to follow something that has the overtones of being spiritual? Sometimes these spiritual groups are really cults. I would think that our salvation and the salvation of our family is more important than being drawn into some quasi-spiritual group that mentions Jesus, but focuses more on the leaders of the church and their guidance.

But of Him ye are in Christ Jesus, Who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption: That, according as it is written, he that glorieth, let Him glory in the Lord. 1 Corinthians 1:30-31
