Does Jesus think that it's O.K. if He loved us enough to give His life for us, but we choose to not love others?

Does Jesus think that it's O.K. if He loved us enough to give His life for us, but we choose to not love others?

Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us, and sent His Son to be the propitiation [atoning] for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another. 1 John 4:10-11

Of course it's fair for Jesus to require this, but we human think of so many reasons to make loving our neighbor sound unfair like: they have different skin, they have different beliefs, they have a different language, they have different customs, how do I know they aren't going to threaten my life in some way? Boy, aren't we full of excuses. Jesus told us many times that we are to love others. Here are a few examples:

*Then one of them, which was a lawyer, asked Him a question, tempting Him, and saying, Master, which is the great Commandment in the Law?  Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.  This is the first and great Commandment.  And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.  On these two Commandments hang all the Law and the prophets.  Matthew, Chapter 22, verses 35-40.

*Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the Law.  For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other Commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.  Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the Law.  Romans, Chapter 13, verses 8-10.

*Thou shalt not hate thy brother in thine heart: thou shalt in any wise rebuke thy neighbour, and not suffer sin upon him.  Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people, but thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself: I am the LORD.  Leviticus, Chapter 19, verses 17-18.

If we hate others, for all are our brothers, because they might take our jobs, they are different than we are, they might need social services that we pay into or for any other reason, does Jesus think we are moving toward the light?

If we hate others, for all are our brothers, because they might take our jobs, they are different than we are, they might need social services that we pay into or for any other reason, does Jesus think we are moving toward the light?

But he that hateth his brother is in darkness, and walketh in darkness, and knoweth not whither he goeth because that darkness hath blinded his eyes. 1 John 2: 11

Jesus doesn't want us involved in hating others, nor does He want us to live in darkness that blinds us. Here are a couple of other Bible passages that reinforce this:

Thou shalt not hate thy brother in thine heart: thou shalt in any wise rebuke thy neighbour, and not suffer sin upon him.  Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people, but thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself: I am the LORD.  Leviticus, Chapter 19, verses 17-18.

Take heed to yourselves: If thy brother trespass against thee, rebuke him; and if he repent, forgive him.  And if he trespass against thee seven times in a day, and seven times in a day turn again to thee, saying, I repent; thou shalt forgive him.  Luke, Chapter 17, verses 3-4.

We love Him, because He first loved us. If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen? And this commandment have we from Him, That he who loveth God love his brother also. 1 John 19-21

If you get caught up in bragging to others, sending them Instagram, Facebook, tweets or other things to tout all your accomplishments, does that tell Jesus, who gave up everything for you, that being humble doesn't really matter to you?

Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble. Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time: Casting all your care upon Him: for He careth for you. 1 Peter 5: 5-7

It's difficult in today's society, to not get caught up in sending media to others who are always bragging to you. The thing is, Jesus knows how this pride can corrupt our soul. That's why He warns us several times in the Bible about pride and humility. Here are a few passages:

The fear of the LORD is the instruction of wisdom; and before honour is humility.  Proverbs, Chapter 15, verse 33.

*Every one that is proud in heart is an abomination to the LORD: though hand join in hand, he shall not be unpunished.  Proverbs, Chapter 16, verse 5.

*Seest thou a man wise in his own conceit?  there is more hope of a fool than of him.  Proverbs, Chapter 26, verse 12.

*Boast not thyself of tomorrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth.  Let another man praise thee, and not thine own mouth; a stranger, and not thine own lips.  Proverbs, Chapter 27, verses 1-2.

If you see someone in need, but remember you are saving for the newest phone, car, or outfit and decide not to help them in some way, are you saying to Jesus that His request for us to be charitable to others is less important than the things we want?

And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins. 1 Peter 4:8

There are many verse that further support this. Here are a few:

For the LORD your God is God of gods, and Lord of lords, a great God, a mighty, and a terrible, which regardeth not persons, nor taketh reward.  He doth execute the judgment of the fatherless and widow, and loveth the stranger, in giving him food and raiment.  Love ye therefore the stranger: for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt.  Deuteronomy, Chapter 10, verses 17-19.

*If there be among you a poor man of one of thy brethren within any of thy gates in thy land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not harden thine heart, nor shut thine hand from thy poor brother: But thou shalt open thine hand wide unto him, and shalt surely lend him sufficient for his need, in that which he wanteth.  Deuteronomy, Chapter 15, verses 7-8.

*When thou cuttest down thine harvest in thy field, and hast forgot a sheaf in the field, thou shalt not go again to fetch it: it shall be for the stranger, for the fatherless, and for the widow: that the LORD thy God may bless thee in all the work of thine hands.  When thou beatest thine olive tree, thou shalt not go over the boughs again: it shall be for the stranger, for the fatherless, and for the widow.  When thou gatherest the grapes of thy vineyard, thou shalt not glean it afterward: it shall be for the stranger, for the fatherless, and for the widow.  And thou shalt remember that thou wast a bondman in the land of Egypt: therefore I command thee to do this thing.  Deuteronomy, Chapter 24, verses 19-22.

*For the needy shall not always be forgotten: the expectation of the poor shall not perish for ever.  Psalm, Chapter 9, verse 18.

*Blessed is he that considereth the poor: the LORD will deliver him in time of trouble.  The LORD will preserve him, and keep him alive; and he shall be blessed upon the earth: and Thou wilt not deliver him unto the will of his enemies.  Psalm, Chapter 41, verses 1-2.

*The poor is hated even of his own neighbour: but the rich hath many friends.  He that despiseth his neighbour sinneth: but he that hath mercy on the poor, happy is he.  Proverbs, Chapter 14, verses 20-21.

*When the poor and needy seek water, and there is none, and their tongue faileth for thirst, I the LORD will hear them, I the God of Israel will not forsake them.  Isaiah, Chapter 41, verse 17.

If you are standing around with others and they put down someone who has a faith in Jesus and you say nothing, does Jesus feel it's no big deal?

If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye; for the spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you: on their part He is evil spoken of, but on your part He is glorified. 1 Peter 4:14

I've been in the same position and realize it's not easy to stand up for your beliefs, especially when you are among people who are putting others down. Fortunately for us, Jesus didn't say that He wouldn't go through the betrayal, mocking, scourging, and Crucifixion and Resurrection, because He knew we wouldn't stand up for Him in front of others!
