If you lie against the truth, enjoy confusion or are a hypocrite, are you just fitting in with today's politicians or are you going against Jesus' desire for you?
But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth. This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish. For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work. But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy. And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace. James 3:14-18
You can't turn on the TV anymore without hearing about Fake News . Now the part you have to determine is whether it truly is Fake News or is it people who lie against the truth? Jesus wants us to know that He doesn't want us to slip into hypocrisy either (being a pretender, deceiver, liar, etc.) just to fit in with current societal actions. Would Jesus be truly proud of what He sees on TV or coming out of the mouths of many parents, who are modeling this behavior for younger generations? It's a lot to be prayerful about!
What Do Our Actions Say When Jesus Calls Us? Sometimes, the lack of action conveys more than we imagine, but there's still time to make changes! Yeah, in the way of thy judgments, O Lord, have we waited for Thee; the Desire of our soul is to Thy name, and to the remembrance of Thee. Isaiah 26:8
If we gossip or talk hatefully about others, putting them down, does Jesus think that of all the good things we do, what we say about others doesn't matter?

Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth! And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell. For every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed of mankind: But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. James 3 5-8
Although I have been guilty of gossiping myself, falling prey to saying negative and hateful things about others doesn't please Jesus. I have prayed over the years to have Jesus cure me of this terrible, sinful behavior. Every now and then, I start to fall back into old patterns and have to catch myself and turn these bad behaviors over to Jesus' very capable hands to heal me!

If we assume that the poor, oppressed or devastated like those in Puerto Rico are being taken care of from government funding and ignore their plight, are we being examples of the Christians Jesus calls us to be?

What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him? If a brother or a sister be naked, and destitute of daily food, And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit? Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works. Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble. But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead? James 2: 14-20
I know it's easy to figure that it's difficult enough for us to take care of our own bills, but Jesus doesn't want us turning our backs on those less fortunate, regardless of whether the government has already thrown a little money toward that situation. Jesus, through this passages, DOES show He want us to take care of those in need!

When We Don't Take Time to be There for the Widows, Widower, Orphans and Those Who Are Sick, Are We Saying We Only Have Time to Do What Gives Us Pleasure?
Pure and undefiled religion before God the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their trouble, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world. James 1:27
When we don't take time to be there for the widows, widowers, orphans and those who are sick, are we saying we only have time to do what gives us pleasure?
Are we saying, "Jesus, I have time to stream this show right now, but I can't really relate to widows, widowers, and orphans." Interestingly, we would want Jesus and others in the community there for us as a support if we were to become a widow, widower or lose our parents.
Are we telling Jesus we have time to watch a video that's gone viral, but just don't have the time to check in on those who are sick? Again, we would want Jesus there by our side and others in our community if we were to become seriously sick. Do we have a Double Standard?
Jesus wouldn't think highly of us putting His requests on the back burner in favor of doing what gives us more pleasure!
